This group meets to discuss the pressures of the workplace in order to try to come up with some solutions to how to communicate to an employer that we have a learning disability so they will listen and be more tolerant/accepting.

As all parents of children with nonverbal learning disabilities know, it's really difficult for our children to meet and maintain friends. Part of the problem is that it's tough to connect with other families who understand the needs of NLD kids, and with those whose kids struggle with similar issues. My name is Don Adams and I'm the Head of School at the YMCA Academy. We just started holding some new events for parents and other events for anyone in the community. This group was established in 2010 by a small group of amputees who met while receiving outpatient physiotherapy at St. John's Rehab Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Right from the get go, we realized how important it was for amputees and caregivers to have a social network outside of the hospital/rehab setting where we could share ideas, and be able to learn from one another.
